OUR HISTORY

The Anambra State Association of Ohio was born out of the vision, dedication, faith in God, love, and goodwill of Dr. Mary Nduaguba. Her legacy is not only the creation of this association but also the inspiration she provided to many individuals in our community.

She often shared stories of events within the community that propelled her to establish the Anambra State Association of Columbus, Ohio. One such story was about an Anambra man who lived alone. When he became ill, no one checked on him until she was contacted. Dr. Nduaguba explained that this was one of the important reasons for building a community where members are known, connected, and able to share contact information and provide support—especially in times of need.

She emphasized that ASAOC began as a simple idea that took shape with the help of a few friends and some Anambra NCC members. She envisioned the association as an opportunity for our children to know one another, to hear and speak the Igbo language, and to embrace our culture. She encouraged members with talents and hobbies to organize Igbo classes and other cultural activities to educate the children and strengthen our heritage.

Dr. Nduaguba also reminded us that by meeting regularly and interacting often, we build strong bonds and genuine relationships within the community. She added that when we bring our talents together for the good of the group, we create a strong, nurturing association that fosters unity, love, fellowship, and networking.
The future plan of ASACO involves establishing humanitarian projects that will impact the lives of many especially the marginalized here in our community and in Anambra State.

The history of the Anambra State Association of Ohio would not be complete without recognizing the contributions of the interim administrators, who took this vision and worked diligently to create the first bylaws and establish active governance.

To preserve and promote our cultural artistic traditions, languages, and histories of our ancestral cultures within the community and future generations.

To cultivate a vibrant, inclusive cultural community where our diverse traditions,
Languages and cultural heritage flourishes, fostering love, compassion. honesty and empowering every member to participate fully and creatively.
